Reflections on the Fall 2023 College Climate Gathering

On November 3rd, 2023, 142 students from 45 universities arrived in Providence, Rhode Island for the College Climate Gathering. They experienced a weekend of workshops, panels, and community-building oriented at revitalizing climate organizing at the university level, this time with an unassailable mission of environmental justice and community engagement.

To create this space, dozens of students poured thousands of unpaid hours into preparing what we now know as the College Climate Gathering. They designed curricula for nine workshops and they figured out how to host nearly 100 guests. They pulled together a healthy budget and free food for almost 150 attendees. This report tells the story of the scheming behind the CCG, which formally began on a launch call exactly four months before the event launched.
